In early Sri Lanka history many of the substantial buildings and structures were either related to the royalty or to Buddhist monks. This area is particularly known for the monastery ruins that were first discovered and cleared by the British. Our first stop, I think is really spectacular and peaceful. Kalualya Pokuna was once home for a large monk community . It is certainly it is peaceful. I think I could cope. You could relax, say a few prayers , go for a swim…. Not far from this monastery , was another monastery with an extensive hospital complex, Kaluiyapokuna, for the monks. It included a massage area and hot water/ and oil treatment in a body shaped stone. How would you feel lying in it? It is a bit creepy, like the bottom half of a sarcophagus.
I don’t think I would like to lie in this for treatment.
