Do I have to?

We are sitting in the Qantas lounge at Auckland airport, forcing ourselves to eat salad, fruit ( that’s the healthy stuff) and ice cream(not so healthy)

As a city,Auckland is a mixture of old and new buildings.

There is a new subway being constructed (started 5 years ago) and many road closures in the main city. Commercial cargo ships and cruise ships still berth in the centre of the city on the harbour. Industrial areas are being converted into apartments and recreational areas to meet the growing population. Wynyard precincts is one such area. It is reached through a pedestrian bridge that opens to let boats through.

Going up
Up!
You can walk now.

There are heaps of restaurants promising the best beer ,fish and chips and other delicacies. We settles for shakes made with gelato. Now look at the picture below…..a cruise boat perhaps ? No it’s an apartment block.

Most activities for locals and tourists are a ferry or car ride away. The ferry queue was extremely long so we settled for a walk to Albert park. I hope you remembered that most land in New Zealand is hilly so we are being healthy.

Enormous fig trees with branches stretching across the path.

A young lady went swimming in the fountain and then entertained the men by getting undressed and dressed before leaving.

We strolled past the art gallery wth its beautiful wood lined ceiling. Spotted some murals and this ice cream van before heading back to the hotel to collect bags and take a taxi.

Glass canoe outside the gallery.

Next trip is in May to Japan. Hope you can make it.
