Dutch Harbour

Dutch Harbour , in just a few picture and words. It’s

🔹called Unalaska…..well the town is

🔸the only place in American that has been invaded in a war, The Japanese attacked the outer island of Attu and took the 40 inhabitants to Japan as prisoners. American soldiers and Navy  were sent here to defend the land. All the locals were evacuated to the mainland. Conditions for the prisoners in Japan , locals in the evacuation camps and soldiers living in the Aleutian Islands were terrible.

🔹where  the oldest cruciform Orthodox Church is located. It was finished in1896 . Icons and religious items from older churches on the site are held in side chapels at the cathedral.

🔸where the tv program ‘Deadliest Catch’ is filmed.

🔹silver salmon run time so lots of food for wildlife,
