We are leaving Kyoto to catch the ferry to Hokkaido. It is an overnight ferry with no wifi( I know you will cope). You are having an early start to visit one last temple, now don’t groan as it’s worth it really! Tenryu-ji Temple was started in 1339 as a residence but became a teaching temple in1343. As with other buildings of this time, Fire has periodically destroyed buildings so the present buildings date to the 1800’s. This is not the case with the garden which is the original rock garden created in 1339.The Moss is so thick it is like an expensive carpet.

Would you believe these are cherry blossoms.
Raked stones.

The bamboo forest

Impressive isn’t it ! Now two quirky sights and we will be on two trains and then the ferry

Love those bunny pastries.

Now do you have to walk backward to their designated carriage? And is it only creatures who are passangers not passengers?

As we travel towards Hokkaido, we are aware that the snow is still on the mountains and guess what, when we get there ,it’s still on the ground. Spring has not quite sprung.   Not sure from where

Mount Fuji in the distance.

Hokkaido is an area of hot springs and bubbling earth. Don’t be afraid when you see scary or not so scary figures as these are keeping you safe from the earth suddenly bubbling up around you.

Foot baths…not too hot today.
