End of sea days!

Your artwork is amazing but I can’t see you in the photo. Were you hiding in the back?It was a fun way to spend a few hours and we met lots of interesting people.
A traditional Hawaiian greeting to Kauai.
Kauai here we come, It is the ‘garden island ‘ and the bus driver tells us ‘it is the best’. The jail has no fences because everyone knows everyone. There is nowhere to hide from the coconut wireless……the aunties gossip and spread the news. Many films have been made here and there is sugar cane plantations….a source for the best rum. I know we didn’t get to taste it …..maybe next time if you like rum.

Opaeka’a Falls are majestic.

Wailua River runs near the Falls and the valley was once the royal land of the king of the island. Access to freshwater meant wealth in ancient Hawaiian society.
Kilohana Plantation was once a sugar plantation. People would cultivate, weed, cut and process the cane by hand. The remains of this industry on the plantation is a train . Once it carried cane, now just people.

On the property is the original house.

It had some beautifully restored rooms but mostly it houses shops now. Not very exciting. There are some amazing places to visit on the island….a blowhole, Waimea canyon, 5 botanical gardens…..you will have to visit again.

Would you like chicken for dinner? There are chickens everywhere. They came with the Filipino workers. People actually don’t eat them as they are too tough….shame as there are so many.

Tomorrow we are on the island of Maui. You will have to pack your bags ready to disembark in Honolulu. No grumbling ,you have had a long holiday and it’s time for home.
