Today we are in the metropolis of Gjovn. The total permanent population is 49 people. Scenery is beautiful. There is a coffee shop and a guesthouse. Guess where we are staying? And guess where we are having dinner? Last night you could have anything you wanted as long as it was cod and vegetables and rhubarb for afters. Tonight we are having?
Did you enjoy your hike up the hill? We could have gone further but it was a bit risky being so close to the cliff ,strong winds and me being a clutz.
It was invigorating. The wind was blustering but we saw puffins flying from the ridge below us Two extremely healthy, or crazy people were climbing up from the harbour in the gorge. The water is 8 degrees. As they were turning blue, I didn’t stop them for a photo. Along the top of the ridge is a seat dedicated to the Danish Princess Mary following her visit with Prince Frederick. It is a lovely spot and I’m sure the Princess enjoyed it. Her seat is quite modest but not tooooo comfortable.
As we walked down the hill, we looked at the hay. Here they mow the fields by hand. The grass is then hung over the racks in the field and covered with a net to dry.
You have seen nearly all the sights in Gjovn. Children practise boating in the creek and one elderly gentleman has created a wonderful garden to entertain everyone who passes.
Feeling guilty about doing nothing? We will go see Eidi. This village has the local shop and school. The scenery is beautiful.
The sheep just kept scratching their backs on the road barriers and ignored us. How rude! So you have gathered, we had a quiet relaxing day just wandering along with the local Faroese holiday makers.
ps. Dinner- pork with vegetables and capsicum sauce followed by cake. Off to the next island tomorrow
