Last day in Sri Lanka. Are you sad to be leaving? Today we are travelling to Negombo and will spend the day there before we fly out at midnight.
Look at these pictures……do they show the real Sri Lanka we have been experiencing?
We are nearly in Negombo. Get your senses ready as we are going to a fish market!
Negombo is a fishing town. The Portuguese settled here , and then the Dutch hence the predominance of Christian religions.
Some of the catch is washed in sea water. Soaked for three days and then dried in the sun.🌞
Once skinned and filleted. The fish goes into barrels with salt water and salt. The barrel is closed. After three days , it is laid out on coir matting . It is left to dry and only covered at night or if it rains. It is sorted by size and type.
Once the fish have been salted properly and spread out, other workers move the fish around to ensure they are fully dried
Ready for dry fish curry? The smell or the process put you off?

Last photos then a rest till it’s time for the airport…. Well repack the bag , shower, dress for a cooler climate and go to the airport. See you soon.
