We are on the move

These two are ready ….are you?

New York here we come…..via Hong Kong!   These two are ready ….are you?( There we’re statues displaying people preparing for the travel season).

Grand Central station.

Now I know you are tired so today will be sort of restful……we will take the Hop on Hop off bus. You will get an overview so you can decide what we can do together tomorrow. There are two routes….Uptown or Downtown.

First stop for all train and building lovers has to be Grand Central Station.

Sorry no flash mob today, just a beautiful interior. The building is quite ornamental with a painted ceiling showing the stars of the zodiac.
Opposite is Bryant Park. This was created by a not for profit organisation that wants to create a green areas for the people of New York.

Quiet seating areas, food stands, a reading library, and games are available for the people visiting. It certainly is a place I would like to enjoy, don’t you agree.

Guggenheim art displays.

Next stop….. the Solomon Guggenheim Museum. Its unusual shape instantly attracts the eye doesn’t it. There is a permanent collection but it is ideal for showcasing art works by a single artist and making it accessible.

Look at the curving walls leading to display rooms.

Today it is a sculpture artist, Gego.

Today it is a sculpture artist, Gego.

I like the smaller sculptures and monochrome prints. What did you think is the best. Sorry , the Picasso exhibit will have to wait as we have so much to see.

New York is lucky to have so many magnificent historical and modern buildings,

The Flatiron.

The Met

Raging bull from Wall Street
Hudson yards This.development is in an old train area.
Times Square which is really boat shaped.
9/11 museum

Next is the famous Central Park.

Horse or bike?

Choose how you visit……. by  bike ,car

Central Park has many walks to explore

….walk

Or horse drawn coach…..you could run, bicycle or even roller blade.Walking seems the best option for us ,but not today because we are going to the High line.

The High Line
Sit awhile

What is the High line you ask?  It is another creation by a not for profit organisation. Originally the park was a train line above ground to carry freight from the port , goods from manufacturing businesses, supply shops and other businesses. The line closed and it was to be removed. Nature was beginning to reclaim it. Local people requested it be made into a green space. Now it is a place for people to relax, walk, look at art and enjoy.

This gentleman is in an adjacent building. He appears to want to join us.

 Tired? Sleep time!
