On the train again but not before another quick walk around Inverness. There are some interesting names on the shops: “Head Gardener “ for a hairdresser,”Filling up “for a restaurant, or this for a pub next to the railway station.
I know you think I sat on the train, laughed, drank coffee and gas bagged. Well I did and I am sure you had fun doing it too. There was lots of pretty scenery, no quirky stations sadly, and I am making progress with the socks. Hope you are impressed( I am, at this rate they will be finished in under a year).
Just in case you missed it , here is a quick review of the scenery….remember it’s from the train so not as precise as when you saw it.
And here we are, end of the line.
Three hours went quickly didn’t it and it’s supposed to be the most scenic trip in Scotland. On the bus and it’s just hour down the road to Portree. There’s the new bridge linking the island of Skye to the mainland.
Are you thinking the restaurant is named after some wild Scottish highland wench? You couldn’t be more wrong. It was the name given to The Scandinavian princess who was married to the Prince of the Castle Moil. As you can see the castle was placed in a strategic position to tax anyone entering the port. She was known as saucy Mary and is buried beneath the castle supposedly facing Norway.
Arriving in Portree, the town could be described as quaint. We strolled down from the hill and clocked up 5km.
A busy day of nothing can be exhausting so off to bed. Whisky making and another castle to occupy you tomorrow. Can’t promise time for retail therapy but let’s see what the day brings.
