It’s time to check out all the final things on your list. Back to the main square for your Eva Perón moment.

The pyramid

The pyramid is a symbol of independence. Around the circumference are mosaic scarfs. These represent the mothers and grandmothers whose children were taken and given to military families during the Dirty War-1976-1983. They are still seeking their missing families.

The scarfs
Cathedral of Buenos Aires

Can you believe this is a church? It looks like it should be an ancient Roman Temple. Inside is impressive isn’t it? There is a tomb for a famous leader buried here. It is even guarded by soldiers , the same as many monuments to dead soldiers or leaders here.

Inside the cathedral.
Guarding the dead

Del Cabido – town hall, part of a garrison and now a museum to a revolution against the British. There are soldiers up there today for a commemoration

Del Cabido

I don’t think you are getting to go inside Casa Rosada to stand on the terrace. There’s a memorial service to the dead of the Malvinas War in the Falklands. Tours are cancelled.

The horses are ready
Great pose position
We’re nearly ready sir.
We’re ready
Let’s go
Spurs and bows
And the band played

Books and bookshops are important and we are heading to a special bookshop. Past the Obelisk and the BA sign. Sorry you couldn’t get a photo right in front, but we would have had to wait ages to pose in front.

The obelisk

And here we are at El Ateneo Grand Splendid . It used to be a theatre. You can sit in the boxes and read or enjoy the spectacle. Coffee? Yes please. There is a cafe at the back.

I know you could spend all day here but it’s time to go to the last area, Recoleta. There’s is heaps of artworks and that famous cemetery.

A Picasso moment
Don’t lose your head because the ladies are more interested in their fur babies and not your pecs
In more than one mind?
Kangaroos, well they are staying off the main road.
The famous lotus
It’s beautiful from every angle

It’s Sunday so the park is busy

Family gatherings
Tango dancers
More dancers
Exercise
Market stores

We finally made it. Here is the cemetery . It looks impressive don’t you think , but crowded behind the walls with all those vaults. Oh dear, the credit card won’t work , so no tickets for us. Yes ,photos from the door is permitted.

Plain and extremely decorative vaults

Homelessness is a problem everywhere , but it is noticeable here with many people sleeping in parks or just in the street.

On monument….a good spot?
Can you see his safe place?
Look at the root system on this fig tree.

Some fun or interesting spots we noticed and forgot to point out to you

A photo with a Gaucho?
A train museum (not open 😄)
Attack!
Are you short or is that a giant door?

Another giant door
A wall just standing
A conversation, he is not listening
Need you shoes cleaned?
Oh dear

Time to go back to the hotel and sort out your bag . Homeward bound tomorrow. There are soldiers many beautiful buildings here with parks dotted around. Everywhere you look is another elaborate facade. Modern buildings do not have the same features……no ahhh moments Buenos Aires – Santiago -Auckland, then Sydney and on the train. See you soon.
