Dear reader, if you expect lots of interesting walks, archaeological sights or the spectacular bird life on the islands of North and South Uist, you will be disappointed. There is even more rain and even better mists today. You might even call it fog. This is a stunning beach on a sunny day……still stunning but showing its moody side.
So what did we will we see then. Let’s start in Rodel at the medieval church of St Clement. There are some spectacular carved grave stones of the McLeod family. These are beautifully carved to show their importance and have swords to represent the power they had in life.
One tomb inside the church was the clan leader when the church was built. His tomb exhibits carvings of the 1500’s that are considered masterpiece for their time.
Here’s someone I think would be interesting to know, Angus. He had three wives…though not all at once.
In the church an artists has displayed painted flags representing Magnus thoughts in poems written for him ( remember the Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall). Here is one.
It’s Ferry time to go to South Uist . Can you see it coming?
The trip to the island takes a mere hour. Look at the tiny islands.
Its time for some culture and lunch at the nearby art centre.
More stunning scenery, rain and mist. So let’s call it a day and head for a nice warm hotel. Let’s hope for better weather tomorrow.
